Description | : | Yippee! Look what I found! Breakfast! A young Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) appears to be jumping for joy -- with food in its beak -- as it found a tasty morsel in the nest. This was the last of the young to leave the nest. It also appeared to be the only one to return to the nest at night -- who can blame it, lots of room now. We named the last one Thomson (after ourselves, why not?). The third hawk (which we called Lassie) was the only one of the four which we did not photograph leaving the nest for the first time. All together, the first letters of the hawks' names (George, Alex, Lassie and Thomson) spell GALT.
