Description | : | Talk about timing! We were told that Swallow-Tailed Kites (Elanoides forficatus) had just returned to Audubon's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary from their winter home in South America. (According to the folks at Corkscrew, the Kites are seen at the sanctuary from mid-February to July.) Arriving at an observation deck overlooking a large marshy area, we spotted several high overhead -- but too far away for any pictures. Trying to track them through the rest of the sanctuary was impossible, so we decided to give it up for the day and return at another time. As we were almost out of the sanctuary, another Kite suddenly swooped down from the sky and grabbed some nesting material from a palm tree. He disappeared just as quickly, but not before we managed a few frames.
