| Description | : | Montreal's City Hall was built between 1872 and 1878 in the Second Empire style, also known as Napoléon III-style. After a 1922 fire, it was restored using as a model the City Hall of Tours, France.
The Hotel de Ville was the site of French President Charles de Gaulle's famous 1967 liberation pronouncement "Long live free Quebec" - a statement cheered by Quebecers, but unwelcome to the rest of Canada. Original size 11x17@200dpi |
