Description | : | A controversial statue in Bridgetown to British naval legend Lord Nelson. Many Bajans want the statue removed, saying Nelson was an English hero, not a Bajan. Nelson and his fleet visited Barbados in June, 1805. Later that year, when news of his death at Trafalgar reach the island, patriotic citizens dedicated Trafalgar Square in his honor. The statue has stood in the square since 1813 - preceding Nelson's Column in London, England, by 17 years.
