| Description | : | On our frequent bird-watching trips, we try to avoid highway driving as much as possible, using lighter-travelled back roads, where more photographic possibilities present themselves. Case in point is this female Eastern Coyote (Canis latrans), which ran across a road in front of us. We got out of the car slowly so as not to spook her before we could get some frames, but we had no worries on that score. She held our attention for several minutes, staring at us, while her mate came out from behind our car and crossed the road to join her. Talk about a Wily Coyote!
And for those with a thirst for more knowledge, this from Wikipedia: The name "coyote" is borrowed from Mexican Spanish, ultimately derived from the Nahuatl word cóyotl. Its scientific name, Canis latrans, means "barking dog." Original size 12x11@240dpi |
