Description | : | Finally -- a male Ruby-throated hummingbird (Archilocus colubris). Four days of visits to one of our local haunts -- each visit six hours plus -- and we hadn't sighted a male of the species. On the last visit, however, we were in luck. Two females and one male were in the area, and they were very active. The females put in several appearances at nearby blooms, but the male was less outgoing. A little patience (OK, a lot of patience) and a little sunlight resulted in a display of the male's namesake gorget.
