Description | : | During one visit to Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, we noticed a Spotted Sandpiper (Actitis maculuria) posing very nicely atop a stump sticking out of a pond. A few feet ahead of us was this Double-Crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus). We were afraid to spook the Cormorant, and thus the Sandpiper, but to our surprise, the Cormorant remained where he was, seeming to say "OK, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my closeup."
